AND I FEEL LIKE I’M THE SHIT, YEAH THAT’S MY ATTITUDE

Todays blog entry is about…me! Ahhaha, I own. Recently when I was in Lithuania, I was inteviewed along with my friend Polina. Topics included me, this blog, me, Witch House, me, my m8s, me, dog farts etc. This is a link to the interview, with my chunks starting about 2/3rds down the page, and after the cut is the interview in English. Keep in mind this was translated from English into Lithuanian and then back into English, so that’s why my syntax sounds a bit off. I’m actually a little retarded though, but I’m super rich so everyone likes me anyway.

Elaborate more, please about the genres you are interested in.

I do a blog called “Better Than Sex”.  And as far as I know my blog was the first to use the term witch house to describe stuff like Salem or oOoOO and all these kind of bands. The term came when Travis from Pictureplane described such kind of music and he called it witch house. Originally it was meant about the bands with more connection to house, but I started using it for those bands, which I included in my compilations. Now, for me, it is a little bit more interesting than chillwave, because I really appreciate how it is coming from multiple genres. It has hip hop production, at the same time it uses dubstep and influences by such bands as Throbbing Gristle. It just has so many different genres put together into one type of music.

Maybe you could tell us some more new genres we don’t even know yet?

Weed punk is how I like to describe the indie/noise-punk that mostly comes from LA, like Foot Village, Mika Miko and so on. It doesn’t really mean anything. But right now there is kind of a subset of witch house that I call ghetto goth. It is like witch house, but has more r’n’b flavour. It is more tied into r’n’b or even Dutch house, but it still has that heavy similar beats. The name ‘ghetto goth’ comes from the party GHE20 GOTHIK run by the amazing Venus X. It’s not an actual genre, but I like the term.

Any bands to recommend?

It’s not about bands mostly. It’s more about dj’s and remixes. There is a guy, called Physical Therapy, who spins it and who makes amazing remixes. Nike7Up also could be tied into that as well. Still I think, that all of those above mentioned genres are still very new and original.

How did you came with Mutant Transmissions  concept and sound?

I used to make mixtape, which was called “The Modern Mutant’s Handbook” and it was shared online for free. And it was just like ripping music from MySpace. I just used to find a band I like, then check all the bands in their friends list and then compile a mixtape from these 30 or 40 tracks of these bands from various countries, who might have only one song. I used to spread it around. And I was surprised, that a lot of people had these things. I still see people sharing these compilations now, even though I made them 5 or 6 years ago. I think I made about thirty of them. I’ve always been interested in those obscure and strange short-lived acts. When the members do several songs, then split up and make ten more projects. So these bands expands like the flower of weirdness. Lots of bands like these do not get so much attention. But there are several of them, who get some more and I also incorporate them in my lists. One of my friends has a project from Oakland, which is called Nero’s Day at Disneyland. His stuff is amazing. I look at his compositions and just like…. it just blows me away. He is very good. I’ve been pushing him for a while and I am really surprised how many people are into this stuff. In his shows you can see punks, goths, hardcore dudes, hippies. And what he makes is like avant guard breakpunk mixed with classical music. Under normal circumstances, you would be really surprised how such music might have such a wide audience. But it really surprises me how many people pick up on him and it is really awesome.
